The look of the day today involves my take on ‘Portofino chic’. Portofino is a town I fell in love with when I first visited. Complete with stunning little beach coves, calm waters, sun-washed churches and rocky cliffs in hues of pale terracotta, it’s the perfect place to spend the day (or longer), if you visit the Italian Riviera.
And of course, I can’t fail to mention that the town is a little haven of luxury- Italian designer stores dot the streets surrounding the harbour which is filled with glamorous yachts and their equally well decked-out owners.
I observed that the women were typically stylish. Not in an overly conspicuous way though. Their outfits channelled more of a Bottega Veneta-style understatement, rather than a Versace-type of gaudiness. Lots of crisp white blouses, olive micro shorts, chunky wooden heels and heavily tanned flesh on display. Complimented by that amazing Italian womanly self-assuarance.
So the pieces I chose for this look reflect, to me, colours of the ‘Italian Summer’. Striking burnt orange, black accents, gold, tortoiseshell, and navy. The look is very Olivia Palermo- I think she exemplifies this style perfectly.
