Retro Movement

I think this editorial is just awesome. I love the spirit it evokes- the sense of movement, and the way Abbey-Lee’s body just creates a feeling of dynamism and electricity even though the images are obviously motionless. Such an eye-catching and animated spread aided by great styling and photography. It probably just jumps straight out of the page in print!

Back in the Day…

From Wild Things by Douglas Perrett. Take a look at some of the first polaroids of a make-up free Rosie, Candice, Miranda et al, when they were just starting out in the modelling world. Can you imagine that these wide-eyed young girls would go on to become some of the world’s most bankable models?

Certainly the casting directors clearly had no idea- their comments below indicate how nonplused they were, although some of their first impressions are positive.

On Miranda: “She would always do her castings with her blonde friend, another Aussie who would always get the job.

On Rosie: “Upbeat character, she seemed to have her eye on the big picture.”

On Candice: Didn’t like her; Found her very Barbie-like.”

On Liu Wen: “Professional, in and out. Class act.”

On Arizona: “Didn’t get at first; Her hair, her face.”

On Chanel: “Realized how young these kids are. She needed a hug that day.”

On Abbey-Lee: “They kept sending her over to hang out. I wasn’t sure why, neither was she.”

Spring Lips

The ‘no mascara’ look paired with a vibrant pout featured hugely on the catwalks this season. Such a youthful look for Spring, and gorgeous with heavy groomed but natural brows. I’m loving a matte finish after realising that bright, glossy lipsticks can look tackier, and more 80′s if you get what I mean? Not particularly a good look, so now I’m gonna discard my previously trusted brights (MAC’s ‘Morange’- a bright tangerine, ‘Lickable’- a fuchsia, ‘Eager’- an orange red), in favour of a sleek, matte finish. Although I still love my wonderful and classic MAC Red, because a red/blue lip of course works in any form!

My new love is for these amazing NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils:

I’m obsessed with ‘Damned’, after seeing Abbey Lee Kershaw rocking a similar colour. I’ve been wearing it at every possible chance. It’s described as a magenta colour, but is really more of a deep, raspberry shade, which I layer like crazy! The darker the better…And not meaning to shamelessly advertise, but these pencils are incredible. Seriously, they glide on, you have great control due to the pencil shape (no need for lip liner), and they last all day/night. I’ve done the transference test several times- in fact I wore it to a wine tasting if that’s proof enough, and it did not budge. No staining- I couldn’t believe my eyes! Am gonna stock up on these babies, and I’m eager to get their Velvet Matte lipstick in ‘Carthage’- a bright pink coral colour, to hopefully achieve the beauty looks above.
