From One Ceremony to Another…

Opening Ceremony, Covent Garden

Have you guys headed to Opening Ceremony’s Covent Garden pop-up store yet? The New York label’s first European outlet is here until October, and opened in conjunction with their 10th Anniversary.

The pop-up store spans 2 levels, and stocks an array of London 2012-themed ready to wear and accessories, including capsule collections of some of the label’s most popular past designs.

To me, Opening Ceremony as a brand, represents the mix of New York and London’s cool aesthetic. The label’s typical girl, according to the designers behind the brand, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, is a mix of Chloe Sevigny, Alexa Chung, MIA and Josephine de la Baume.

Eclectic, maybe, but I think Opening Ceremony will definitely add some quirkiness and fun to the otherwise touristy nature of its Covent Garden surroundings.

I think it looks like an amazing space- absolutely love that staircase! The whole place definitely has a fun, Colette-style feel that I’m dying to check out.

So from Opening Ceremony, to tonight’s much anticipated Closing Ceremony. Will you be watching??

This is England

A reflection of London style. From icons Cara Delevingne (pictured here for Jalouse), Alexa Chung, Poppy Delevingne, Laura Bailey, Georgia-May Jagger, & Kate Moss.

London style is quirky, flamboyant, casual and effortless. It’s embedded in street culture, and bends the rules. It’s fun, fresh and fabulous, and totally has its own spirit and identity- what’s not to love?!

Denim Inspired

Once a Fashion Faux-pas, Double Denim has seen its stigma cast aside and been the choice of many a fashionista for the last 2 years. It was around that time that quite a few  fashion no-no’s were given new life, including the pairing of navy with black, and clashing prints- particularly with the new decade’s penchant for brocade and florals. Once again, Double Denim is big news for 2012. Where once it was a staple on the 2010-2011 catwalks with Derek Lam and Stella McCartney both showcasing it in their collections, it’s huge again, with brands such as APC making it the focus of their A/W 2012 collection.

We’re seeing ‘rules’ being broken all around as fashion becomes more experimental than it’s ever been. But that doesn’t mean it’s ok to look like an eccentric old bat! Certainly when it comes to Double Denim, it’s an extremely tricky trend to pull off convincingly. It’s such an achingly cool Spring look when done right though, so it’s hard to eschew in favour of something safer. But as all of the lovely ladies above show, if you pair your shades right, it can look amazing. Alexa and co. show it’s about making sure you pair a lighter with a darker piece, or choose one that has different denim tones like the fab Isabel Marant shirt (above) which is a great example of how you can work a multi-tonal shirt with ripped washed shorts. Accents are just as important- a statement belt does wonders to break up similar textures and colours, while exaggerated pockets stop your outfit merging into one. Or, as Karlie Kloss demonstrates (above), adding a leather jacket will also lift the look.

Stay tuned if you want to see my take on the Double Denim trend- photos to come soon!
