The Essentials

winter essentials

It wouldn’t be Winter without a checklist of all those protective essentials!

1. Gloves- ZARA. First up, a pair of great gloves. Gloves for me, like most people, are an absolute burden. You can’t check your phone, text or take calls whilst on the move, nor (as I do) keep them on inside the supermarket due to lack of grip. (I like to keep mine on while shopping otherwise my fingers freeze from touching all those cold food items!)

Other than this, a smart pair is a must. I love these faux leather and knit mix ones from ZARA- completely chic.

2. Mug- Le Creuset. In Winter, my mug is my life. I’m a huge tea and coffee drinker so a large, rustic-type mug is perfect for warming the soul and hands :) (Yes, I suffer from unusually cold hands!!) Needless to say I own a couple of these fab Le Creuset ones.

3. Snood- Duffy. I’m always wearing snoods even when it’s a little warmer. In my opinion they’re even better than scarves for that toasty “ensconced” feeling you get. This cashmere one by Duffy is in that gorgeous shade of frosty grey- definitely a must have.

4. Headband- Missoni. Occasionally I’ll pop on a cute knit headband to keep the head chill away. I’m not really a hat person but headbands have been part of my accessories collection for a good five years or so. This crochet Missoni one may not be as warm, but it’s a lovely way to brighten up a Winter outfit.

5. Hi-tops- Ash. I’m loving wedge hi-tops at the moment! Quite unlike me I guess, but they look cool with a pair of skinny leathers, add some much needed height, and you can actually run for the bus in them. A great alternative to Winter boots- what’s not to love?

6. Candle- Diptyque. Pomander is the smell of Christmas. Just smell it then you’ll understand. This will see me right through the festive season and make me a very happy bunny indeed.

7. Lip treatment- NARS. I was once told to avoid products like Vaseline because petroleum jelly actually takes moisture away from your lips. Since then, I’ve been hooked on this NARS lip conditioner. My shade of choice is “Bianca”- it’s a kind of frosty and colourless shade so on dry Winter days it’s a godsend before applying lipstick.

Five for Silver, Six for Gold

The Olympics is nearly over, and what an incredible run of success we’ve had! So proud of our fabulous Team GB. And how surprisingly well London have handled the influx of tourists, transport situations etc. Although I really musn’t jinx things. After all, there’s still a few days left for some potential cock-up…

In fashion terms, all this talk of medals, whether they be silver or gold (or even bronze), leads me to raise a style dilemma I often have.

Which one (silver or gold) feels more ‘me’? Who suits which one, and why? Sounds trivial I know, but it’s often something I consider when matching accessories with my outfit.

But before we get onto all that, take a look at some of my favourite shinies for the coming season:

Tilly clutch, House of Harlow 1960 / Rio bracelet, Monica Vinader / Artemis spiked watersnake and leather bag, Christian Louboutin / Stormy shoes, House of Harlow 1960 / Ring, Gaia Repossi for Zadig & Voltaire /  Metallic zig-zag headband, Missoni / Carmen sunglasses, House of Harlow 1960

How do you like these stunning metallic accessories for the coming season? I’m particularly lusting after House of Harlow’s Tilly clutch, and the ring by Repossi for Zadig & Voltaire, (or anything Repossi for that matter!) Forget pops of colour, metallics just really are the best accents for any look.

In all honesty, I’m a silver girl completely. I hope this doesn’t indicate I always come in second best or something!! (Although sport’s never been my strong suit to be fair!)

But silver’s just an everyday, wearable staple, and although I like to maintain a slight tan, it suits my fairer skin tone better.

Gold looks amazing on the right person, and is it just me or have you noticed that most bags feature gold hardware?? So I feel it’s not right unless I wear gold to match…

As a great compromise, I absolutely adore rose gold and that oxidised silver shade which I think adds an air of rockability.

Which do you prefer, gold or silver? And I hope you guys all enjoy the rest of the Olympics!

Look of the Day

july outfit
Cropped tweed jacket, Edward Achour  / Neon clutch, Pucci / Dress, Missoni / Resin bracelet, Mango / Slingback heels, Vionnet
I love the vibrancy and Mediterranean feel of orange for summer. And there’s no designer that evokes the spirit of this better than Missoni. With the brand’s signature zigzag prints, each piece is exotic enough for holiday attire but equally don’t look out of place for a chic city look.
The unexpected knitted fabric of this dress is great as it takes you from summer to autumn in an instant. It would look so amazing against a tan and offset by black, gold and orange accents. The Achour jacket is perfect to casually sling over your shoulders and the gold detailing gives it a glamorous lift.
A luxe evening look for at home or abroad, and I’ve definitely got my eye on that beautiful tangerine clutch!
