I don’t think I’m quite able to pull off a leather jacket that convincingly. You kind of need to have a certain air and attitude- it’s hard to put my finger on exactly what that is…Having said that, I did pick one up in Hong Kong recently which somehow suits. It’s usually very tricky business though. For my gorgeous flatmate on the other hand, the leather jacket is her go-to staple. On her it just looks right, like an extension of herself, whereas on me it screams ‘err, that’s not really you what are you trying to do?!’

I realised though, after almost (thank God I didn’t) parting with over half a grand on an incredible russet-coloured leather jacket from Maje, that if the colour is right then I can get away with it. Oh, and material is important- the Maje one was incidentally burnished suede. So for all you guys who are slightly leather jacket-challenged like me, there are some amazing variants on this classic piece. It’s just a matter of playing and shopping around!
